The free Chicago Greeter tours are led by friendly locals who will guide you through authentic Chicago — its fascinating histories, diverse cultural traditions, iconic landmarks, and off-the-beaten-path gems.

Chicago Greeter offers a variety of ways to explore the city: register for a customized neighborhood tour with a friendly local, join a fast and flexible tour of downtown, or explore on your own with self-guided walks.

Chicago Greeter celebrates 20 years

This summer, Chicago Greeter will be celebrating its 20th anniversary with a pop-up InstaGreeter series that will feature walks across the city. These free tours will run on Saturdays from May through August.

In-person Greeter tours

These personalized tours offer a deep dive into the Chicago neighborhood of your choice, led by a friendly local. A recipient of TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence, these two to four hour tours are conducted in over a dozen languages.

Chicago Greeter and Choose Chicago are committed to providing a safe experience for its volunteers and visitors. Our tours will be operating with the following safety precautions:

  • Guests and tour guides must wear masks at all times during the tour.
  • Tour groups must be six guests or less.

InstaGreeter downtown tours

Looking for a quick and easy tour of downtown Chicago’s top sights? Let InstaGreeter take you on a free hour-long guided walk, without the need to register in advance.

Tours begin at 11:30 a.m. every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at the Chicago Cultural Center Welcome Center (77 E. Randolph St.).

Tours also depart at 11:30 a.m every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (Memorial Day through Labor Day) from the Chicago Riverwalk. Tours meet at Columbus Plaza, east of Michigan Avenue bridge.
